Search And Rescue Division
The Erie County Sheriff's Office Land Search and Rescue Division is one of two truly unique organizations in that it is comprised solely of volunteers. The other totally volunteer search and rescue organization is the SCUBA team.Formed 30 years ago, the Land Search and Rescue unit is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the humanitarian cause of saving lives. It members operate under the protection of the Erie County Sheriff's Office, but do not receive any financial support from the county, state or federal governments.
The unit's mission can best be described as that of finding and aiding people in distress. The volunteers of the unit carry on this time honored tradition of helping others by dedicating their time, skills and effort to save the lives of those in trouble.
